Our History

JEUNESSE OUVRIERE CHRETIENNE (JOC) Rwanda or Youth Christian Workers in English is an organization of young people motivated by a desire to work for their socio-economic promotion.

It has two portions and each portion is legal recognized by the Government of Rwanda through Rwanda Government Board ( RGB):

1. A portion of boys : JOC ( Jeunesse Ouvrière Chrétienne) Rwanda

2. A portion of Girls: JOCF ( Jeunesse Ouvrière Chrétienne Feminine) Rwanda

Objective

1. Educate youth to cope with life problems: JOC-JOCF seeks to help youth workers to relieve their living problems in environments where they live and how to solve them. 2. Giving young people an education/training appropriate to their backgrounds and activities: It does this by continuing education through formal trainings. 3. Upgrade work: JOC-JOCF teaches young people the love of work whether manual or intellectual. 4. Animating youth towards a Gospel life: JOC-JOCF is working to make young people understand that their work must bear a stamp of faith and reflect it. 5. Represent and advocate for youth: JOC-JOCF represents and advocates for young people from institutions, collectives, federations, forums, public as well as private.

In order to accomplish our objectives JOC-JOCF has 7 pillars of the 2030 strategy:

  • Technical and entrepreneurial training for young people
  • Spiritual accompaniment and psychosocial support for young people
  • Youth cooperatives
  • Access to finance for young people
  • Action of young people for the environment
  • Innovation and digital competence
  • JOC-JOCF founded by Cardinal Joseph Cardijn in 1925, in Belgium for the purpose of establishing a movement that would serve, represent and educate young people through the method of See, Judge, Act. Upon its arrival in Rwanda in 1958 by MUKAMUSONI Leocadie the founder of JOC-JOCF in Rwanda, JOC-JOCF brought together all categories of youth and adults: workers, students, apprentices and unemployed too. It started by taking interest in young people who are not in schools (dropouts) especially those who left the countryside and wander in Kigali city in search of wellness. For those, JOC-JOCF Rwanda began by providing them with technical and vocational training so they can find work and ensure a social situation in the urban areas. Subsequently, JOC-JOCF also would work to develop productive activities (IGA: Income generating activities) in rural teams to help them fight against rural exodus.

    JOC-JOCF Rwanda is a founding member of various forums like :

  • NBDF (Nile Basin Discus Forum) working on environment issues;
  • RYOF ( Rwanda Youth Organizations Forum);
  • PROFEMME TWESE HAMWE ( The JOCF Girls portion has been initiated this organization which currently operates at National Level this significant results).
